María Jesús Delgado, illustrator, fashion blogger and art teacher. Art has always been a part of her life, encouraged in a self-taught way by her mother and her beloved collection of books on the history of painting that they read together when she was a child. She has never been afraid to experiment with new materials; it has been a “must” in the development of her creativity.
The elegance of the strokes and the delicate use of watercolours make each illustration a work of art. Each piece exudes taste. Among his achievements is having worked for different firms and media such as GRAZIA.
What are your traditions for the winter holidays?
I don't have many traditions for these days at the moment, just family gatherings and those warm moments with my loved ones. However, next year things will start to change, since April, my daughter, will be one year old, and we will start to live the magic of these dates again and create our own traditions. I can't wait!
What is your favorite part of vacation?
Without a doubt, being with my family. For me, family is very important and any excuse to get together is ideal. It's a shame that we haven't been able to experience these last two Christmases in the same way.
Do you prefer “lots of small gifts” or “one or two substantial gifts” when it comes to holiday gifts?
I prefer few things that make me really happy. I really have everything and I need very little, so few and good things are better. It doesn't have to be anything material, nice experiences are also good for me. I don't understand the excessive consumerism that we live in today, almost disposable.
Do you prefer to be a host or a guest? And why?
I like both, but I really enjoy being the hostess. I love preparing my house with care for guests and taking care of everything down to the smallest detail.
Outside the influencer/blogger world, you have many other facets. When did your interest in illustration begin?
Although it may sound cliché, I have been drawing since I was a little girl. I have oil paintings from when I was 5 years old, and framed drawings from that time from some exhibition I participated in. Even the margins of my notes from high school and university were full of scribbles. I have always been connected to drawing in some way.
In any case, my mother has always encouraged everything artistic at home, in a very self-taught way, and we have done everything from paper mache to clay or customizing/creating clothes.
Why does the fashion world want more illustrations and not just photos?
Because fashion is also art, moods, inspiration, and illustration brings all that and more. It gives another point of view, a bit of fantasy and magic, and a lot of freshness. Illustration, for me, is also about letting go, as is fashion.
Where do you find your inspiration for your illustrations?
In cinema, photography, art, the street…many times you don't find inspiration, but rather it finds you.
What would we always find on your work table?
Lots of brushes, pencils, watercolours and tempera paints. All in a kind of orderly chaos.
What is your favorite part of your home studio?
Well, the room I use as a studio and the living-dining room. Both are places of creation and inspiration, of disconnection.
Of all the pencils in your jars, do you have a favourite colour?
I really like mustards/ochres, but I also like pinks and greens. The truth is that it is very difficult for me to choose a color, sometimes it is more about creating palettes, combinations of colors that appeal to me, and that change depending on how I feel.
A fashion illustration exhibition to visit…
Well, right now I'm looking forward to getting away to visit the Moco Museum in Barcelona. It's not a fashion illustration museum, but I think it's a must-see in the city and I'll pay it a visit as soon as I can.
What looks, clothes or other accessories in your wardrobe would you pair OEOE bags with?
I am a big fan of OEOE and I have been using the Barbara bag for years, and the truth is that I have been able to wear it with everything, from more casual looks to more sophisticated styles, they are very versatile bags.
If you could choose one gift from OEOE Handbags this year, what would it be?
Without a doubt, the Valerie model. I think it's very comfortable and has a lot of style.
